Stafford County, Virginia was founded over 300 years ago, has a population of over 76,000 and covers a 277 square mile area. Although Stafford County is primarily rural, it is Virginia's second fastest growing community.

Job Markets & Businesses:  Stafford boasts a highly skilled, versatile labor force, strategic location to area and metropolitan jobs/businesses and a growing high-technology corridor. A number of corporations have established operations in Stafford including GEICO Insurance, Capital One Finance Corp, INTUIT, Logicon, Colonial Circuits, McQ Associates, Hildrup Moving & Storage, and Dongsung America, Inc..  Stafford's pro-business approach and ideal location will ensure its growth well into the next century. 
* Transportation: Stafford is within close proximity to four major international airports (Reagan National, Dulles, BWI, and Richmond), and the Stafford Regional Airport is currently under construction to open in 2000.  There are local and long-distance passenger bus and train lines with stops in Stafford as well as CSX freight rail service.  Commuters can take the train, bus, van-pool, ride-share or carpool to D.C.
* Government: The government is comprised of an elected Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, School Board, Treasurer, Commonwealth Attorney, Sheriff, Commissioner of Revenue and Clerk of the Circuit Court.  The courthouse and government buildings are located at the Stafford County Administration Center, 1300 Courthouse Road in Stafford.

  • Public schools:  Stafford's school system is considered one of Virginia's finest.  There are 11 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools.
  • Private:  There are a number of Private and Christian schools & pre-schools in the area.  The region's primary Catholic school is located in Stafford.
  • Colleges:  the new Mary Washington College Stafford campus offers state-of-the-art adult education, including both undergraduate and graduate degree programs and non-degree workforce training programs.   Mary Washington College is raked one of the Top 250 Colleges in the nation,  and "Best Educational Value" in Virginia by Money magazine.  Other nearby colleges include:  Germanna Community College, Northern Virginia Community College, Strayer College and George Mason University.
* Medical Facilities: The Medicorp Health Care System provides comprehensive health care to the region with facilities such as:
  • Mary Washington Hospital, a major regional acute care facility with 308 private room beds in Fredericksburg
  • The Cancer Center of Virginia
  • The Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center
  • The Amy Guest Center for Women
  • Several nursing home/retirement centers

There are two medical centers in Garrisonville as well as a number  of general and specialized doctor, dentist and health care offices in the area.  Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge also offers comprehensive care.
